Bio

Inspired by early movie-going experiences with classics like King Kong, Rocky, and Star Wars, Steve’s love for filmmaking began with a 16mm project in Mrs. Hatfield’s 5th-grade class. His creative path took an unexpected turn in the early 1990s when he landed in post-revolution Prague, managing renowned venues for the Gemer Group, including the famed Ziznivy Pes (The Thirsty Dog) pub—immortalized in a Nick Cave song and Cosmopolitan magazine. While running stages for legends like Joe Strummer and Urge Overkill, Steve found himself drawn back to film through Prague’s burgeoning movie industry and the works of directors like Ivan Passer and Emir Kusturica.

After a brief stint managing a Baptist seminary and returning to the U.S. to study film, Steve built a distinguished career, working alongside legendary directors such as the Coen Brothers on No Country for Old Men and True Grit, and collaborating on series like Yellowstone, 1883, Landman, and The Madison. As a producer, he’s helmed projects like the award-winning Hulu series BBQuest and The Silk Road, along with major campaigns for Tito’s, Austin FC, and Basil Hayden.

A San Antonio native and University of Texas graduate, Steve now calls Austin home, where he balances filmmaking with gravel biking, trail running, and attending Longhorn football games with his 8-year-old daughter Nadine—who proudly tells everyone her dad’s favorite color is camo.
